Markham man faces child exploitation rap
A Markham man is facing three child exploitation charges after police say they found child pornography in the man’s home.
Officers from the Sex Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a home in the Highway 7 and Leslie St. area in Markham on Wednesday where they seized the man’s computer and a quantity of related child pornography items.
Det. Const. Janelle Blackadar said the man was making the pornography available through an online instant messaging medium.
She said a victim in some of the pictures has been identified from a previous investigation that led to the arrest of a different man.
Blackadar said police were still investigating how the suspect obtained the pornographic material.
Derek Lo, 34, of Markham, has been charged with possession of child pornography, making available child pornography, and counseling to commit an indictable offence.
